Thermodynamic Engineer is part of the Thermal Management Design team within the R&D Department, based in Piove di Sacco (PD) - Italy.

Responsibilities and Role Requirements:

  • Manage the development of new R&D products in the data center cooling sector for high profile and well known global datacenter customers
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team on global products focusing on high performance, cost effective design and market-leading innovation.
  • Undertaking the direct responsibility of the selection and sizing of the main performing components and design layout for standard and special products
  • Meet objectives of cost, quality time of execution, achieving the best trade-off between market and internal customer needs
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems as regards products under his/her responsibility

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of previous working experience on similar projects, ideally in the HVAC sector in particularly on liquid chiller design
  • Technical Skills: Thermodynamics and refrigeration knowledge, HVAC design, Hydronic design, some 2D/3D CAD design
  • Process Skills: Demonstrates structural process capabilities with focus on continuous improvements.
  • Communication: Demonstrates excellent listening and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Initiative: Works independently and is highly motivated to initiate and accept new challenges.
  • Imagination / Problem Solving: able to asses' problems, break them down into component issues and determine appropriate timely and cost effective solutions.
  • English -Good level - written and spoken
  • High level of motivation combined with leadership abilities
  • Competences: result-oriented, team player, careful to details, flexible
  • Strong PC skills in particularly on Microsoft Excel
  • Attitude for teamwork
  • Available to travel if needed.

Essential functions:

  • Lead the design of new products, collaborating with Marketing, Procurement and Industrial Engineering, being aware of the customer's needs
  • Re-engineering of existing thermal products for performance, quality, legislative or cost improvement (VA/VE)
  • To coordinate and manage the Thermal new design or re-industrialization steps of the different units
  • Approve and review product documentation (Manuals, CAD drawings, specifications, bills of material)
  • Ability to understand refrigerant circuits and related standard applicable (i.e. CE, PED)
  • Project documentation and progress presentation to the senior management
  • Set development, modeling and predicting the heat transfer performance of Vertiv HVAC products and their components e.g. compressors, air cooling condensers, etc.
  • Establish methodologies and equipment for thermal performance characterization of cooling components and systems.
  • Specify testing under a variety of use conditions to determine whether they meet R&D and simulation expectations.
  • Strong involvement in the product prototyping and testing phase
  • Validate of HVAC components and system models with data laboratory tests

Position eligibility requirements:

  • Good knowledge of HVAC design and thermo/fluids principles including compressors, heat exchangers and fans/pump selections normal in the HVAC market sector. Transferable expertise from other similar industries will be accepted.
  • Good knowledge of air-cooled and water-cooled liquid chiller and their unit control aspects
  • Good knowledge of application of chilled water product and their plant control aspects
  • Knowledge of technical norms on efficiency, refrigerants, pressure equipment, quality procedures and grounding of basic detailed lists
  • Capacity of taking decisions as for solving problems.
  • Knowledge of the sheet metal working technologies, refrigerant circuits and components.

Reporting Structure:

  • The position reports to an Engineering Supervisor in the vertiv thermal EMEA R&D and engineering Team in a scope of global products.
